Zillow Azure Marketplace as a data source in Tableau

  • I am trying to use Tableau to connect to the Zillow GetZestimate data via Windows Azure Marketplace. When I choose "Connect to Data" in Tableau, I have an option to connect using OData or Windows Azure Marketplace DataMarket. Neither option seems to work. As my OData URL source, I am using

I then have the option to use either my account key or username and password. I tried both and neither seems to work. I receive an error message that says:

"HTTP request Failed. Please make sure you specified a valid OData URL with valid parameters."

Not sure how to interpret the above error message. Am I supposed to bring in a parameter before connecting to the data source? Anything I am doing wrong?

  • Can you try: ?

This specific data service doesn't work without providing a parameter.

  • Thank you Max!

Your suggestion worked. However, if I want to visualize Zillow data in Tableau, I need more than the results of one parameter at a time. Let's say that I want to bring in all Zillow addresses from a certain region like state or zip into Tableau using the following OData source:

where the required parameters are Address (i.e. 2114 Bigelow Ave) and CityStateandZipCode (i.e. Seattle WA 98109)

Can I do this? For example, perhaps I want that data for all homes in 98109. Can I  use wildcard characters in some way so that more than one row is brought into Tableau?

  • Well, unfortunately, GetZestimate only takes one PropertyID as a result.

You would need to script it to be able to pull multiple results and visualize in Tableau.
