Display Adapter and Chipset Testing

    1. Hardware Requirements

For every ASIC family that is supported in the INF file, a minimum of two adapters are required. One of the adapters must support dual view and have a monitor attached and enabled.

    2. Software Requirements

The DisplayGroups.xml file that is located on the DTM controller must match the agreed upon Display/Chipset ASIC grouping and must be placed on each client system that you are using for the submission. For Premium logos, at least one ASIC family in DisplayGroups.xml must contain devices that all can pass the Premium tests.

ASIC Family is defined as a collection of distinct 2-part ID’s that fit into same core logic/chipset for a given display driver.  For example, if you have a display driver that covers 2 generations of your GPU, then you would most likely have two ASIC families, one for each generation.  So anytime your chipset goes through significant revisions (say you add DX10 support to the chip), then you generally have a new ASIC family.  Hope this helps.

For LDA, yes this is NVIDIA SLI, ATI Crossfire type functionality.

Two adapters are needed fore each ASIC family one of which needs to have dual view enabled.

If your inf only has one ASIC Family but has multiple devices in that family you can use just one machine.

To clarify, this is only required if your chipset supports 2 video outputs and can at any point extend the desktop. If this is not functionality you support, then you will just need to accurately describe your ASIC and the devices covered by that ASIC in displaygroups.xml.

    A2&3
The DisplayGroups.xml is included in the kit and will require editing by you using the information provided by the vender.

Hardware Testing Requirements Updated For Display Adapter/ Chipset

An update to the hardware requirement for Display Adapter/Chipset testing will require that a Linked Display Adapter (LDA) configuration is used in the test bed for relevant display adapters. It is recommenced that the LDA configuration be placed in the Dual-Proc Intel Diversity machine. Here are the hardware requirements with the update. Any questions or comments please email DCTTEST@microsoft.com

    Hardware Requirements
The following hardware is required in the machine pool for display adapter and chipset testing. This specific hardware fulfills the diversity requirements that demonstrate the stability of display drivers and chipsets:

. At least two systems are required for every Discrete ASIC family in the INF file that is obtaining the logo. These systems must contain:
o At least one AMD microprocessor system.
o At least one Intel system with a dual microprocessor (such as the Intel Hyper-Threading microprocessor).
o Note: Mobile and Integrated display adapters and chipsets are exempt from this requirement.
. For every ASIC family that is supported in the INF file, a minimum of two adapters are required. One of the adapters must support dual view and have a monitor attached and enabled.
. Linked Display Adapters (LDA) configuration is used in the test bed for relevant display adapters.
. A multi-sync display data channel standard, level 2B (DDC2B)-capable monitor with EDID 1.3 support on the test systems.
    Thanks,Steve

  • Thank you for informing the updated procedure, Steve.

The updated procedure is added new requirement but it does not help me to process the test. My purpose is to make sure my hardware and software are met the requirements.
