Azure in China RRS feed

  • Hello, we would like to sign up with Azure China, specifically the China east location which I believe is Shanghai...do I need a specific account within azure.cn? This is for our company in Shanghai.

Once we setup a few virtual machines in Azure-China East we would like our users in our shanghai office to connect to them, can they use anyconnect or some sort of user vpn access for this?

Can we also setup site-2-site ipsec vpn tunnels to our international offices for this? What is the general latency to usa and europe?

    Thank you.

  • Hi,

    >we would like to sign up with Azure China, specifically the China east location which I believe is Shanghai...do I need a specific account within azure.cn?

We need to sign up an Azure account first. Please sign up an Azure account at: https://www.azure.cn/pricing/pia-waiting-list/?form-type=identityauth. Of course, you can try a free version account at: https://www.azure.cn/pricing/1rmb-trial-full/?form-type=identityauth. For more information about free account, please read this article: https://www.azure.cn/offers/ms-mc-azr-44p/. It is not necessary to specified area. We only need to do this when we create Azure services, such as create Azure VM and select East China as it region.

    >can they use anyconnect or some sort of user vpn access for this

Yes, normally we can remote to VM directly, refer to this article for more details: https://www.azure.cn/documentation/articles/virtual-machines-windows-classic-connect-logon/. If your net work is on premise, I think you need to try to use site to site VPN to log on Azure VM. please have a look at this article for more information about how to create site to site vnet: https://www.azure.cn/documentation/articles/vpn-gateway-site-to-site-create

    >What is the general latency to usa and Europe?

As my test before, we can create Azure China VPN to connect to global Azure. However there will be some data missing. So it is not recommend if you have higher requirements for the data. If you use global Azure and only want to connect USA machines and Europe's. I think you can have a try.

Hope this helps. If this could help you, please mark it as answer. If you have further issues, welcome to create a new thread.

    Best Regards,

  • Hi, thank you for your response, can you clarify the below?

    1) We do need to create VM in East China so I guess we do need an Azure China account

    2) In our shanghai office we have no firewall or anything, so can we just download software to connect to the VM?

    3) For the site-to-site, I think this is what we need to use to connect to the VM from our USA and Middle East offices?

    4) What do you mean by "some data missing"?

    5) I wouldn't mind using global azure but we prefer something in Shanghai...

    Thank you.

  • # 1 yes.

#2 yes, if you have no firewall or anything, you can connect to Azure VM directly by click "Connect" button on Azure portal.

#3 If your office is in shanghai, but you need communicate with Azure VMs in USA. Site to site is your choice, because of great  firewall of China.

#4 I have tested before, if use site to site VPN connect Azure China and global Azure. The connection is not very unstable. there will be some data missing.

#5 If your business are focus on Shanghai. I think Azure China is a good choice.
