  • Hello everyone, here is my problem.

I tried to connect to SQL Azure use the SQL Server 2008, i have been set the firewall setting on the SQL Azure and add the roles, but i still can't connect to it. The local firewall i have been shutdown, my OS is win 7.

the follow is the error message:

An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server) (.Net SqlClient Data Provider)

    Thanks in advance.

  • Hi Sam.liang,

Also I heard that the SQL Server Management Studio from SQL Server 2008 R2 and SQL Server 2008 R2 Express can be used to access, configure, manage and administer SQL Azure Database. Previous versions of SQL Server Management Studio are not supported. So if you are not using R2, please upgrade it.

Check Tools and Utilities Support (SQL Azure Database) for more information.

    Thanks.
