C/S结构的程序，使用什么方式访问服务端的数据库比较好

最近要做一个winform项目，C/S结构，访问服务端的数据库原本是要用Webservice，或者http+json的方式，但由于client端有大量需要与数据库交互的地方，接口写起来会比较多，开发效率较低，有什么好的访问方式可以使用？或者有没有什么数据库中间件，可以不用把数据库暴露在公网上，还能很灵活地与数据库交互？

你如果不想暴露数据库的话，我建议你还是用WCF 或者 WebAPI.
