question about good driver books and small question about dsf RRS feed

  • Question

  • I was wondering the dsf code i wrote in vbscript can that be used to emulate any device as long as its drivers are installed or do the drivers have to be built into windows?  Also, Im considering soon looking into some driver development books but probably going to get a windows 7 one first but if anyone knows of a good one that combines windows 7 driver development and windows 8 driver development then please tell me.

  • DSF can do any USB device, there are a number of presentations on this see http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/hardware/gg454516 and http://download.microsoft.com/download/a/f/d/afdfd50d-6eb9-425e-84e1-b4085a80e34e/DVR-T388_WH07.pptx

For driver development start wiht Developing Drivers for the Windows Driver Foundation from Microsoft Press.  This is the recommended framework for things like USB for Windows from 2000 onwards.

  • The Amazon link is http://www.amazon.com/Developing-Drivers-Windows-Foundation-Developer/dp/0735623740/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1333237665&sr=8-1  The book is 5 years old but is still the best book on the subject by far.

  • I know its mostly going to be for my dad so I can help him he deals with soldering electronics and sometimes does some custom electronic circuits  which usually hook up to the computer half the time and other times not so much. Pavel im going to learn how to develop device drivers so in case i want to build me a useful device later in my life I wont say I should have learned how to develop a device driver.  Sorry about the fuss in earlier posts but no this isn't april fools.

I still like tim, pavel, and dorans help although dorans has been more towards advice it was still useful.

  • send me a message on codeplex and i will help you with a dsf project as long as it doesnt involve c++ because i was accessing the libraries from vbscript.
