Client cannot connect to Windows 10 running SQL Server 2012 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Site had a Windows 2000 AD setup with SQL Server 2000. Had a HDD crash with no OS recovery possible.

I setup a Windows 10 machine loaded SQL Server 2012 and migrated their latest SQL Server backup via restore first from SQL Server 2008 and finally 2012, 110 compatibility mode. I verified that TCP/IP was enable in the Configuration Manager at port 1433. I opened the OS firewall for input at that port.

This new "server" used to belong to the domain. I removed it from the domain into a workgroup. I changed its network setup from DHCP to a static address, set the gateway address and pointed the DNS server to its gateway address.

I did the same for a client machine.

I issued "ipconfig /flushdns" from a command prompt on both machines.

I can ping the client from the "server" box, but not the reverse. Of course I cannot telnet to the "server" machine from the client.

Any ideas on what I've forgotten?
