Why my driver was disappeared after recovery on Windows 10? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Our driver is a UMDF sensor driver, which is updated from Microsoft sensor sample, Sensors Geolocation Sample Driver (UMDF Version 1).  But it is disappeared after Windows 10 recovery.

    Reproduce step:

    1.  Use Devcon.exe to install my driver (with Windows 10 logo) on clean Windows 10 32 bit OS.

2.Create recovery image to external USB disk

    3. Reboot into OS after complete recovery image creation

    4. Restore recovery image

Settings -> update and security -> recovery -> reset this PC -> remove everything

    5. enter OS, and found my driver was disappeared from device manager.

We use Microsoft sensor sample, Sensors Geolocation Sample Driver (UMDF Version 1)   to do the same test and get the same result, driver was disappeared.

    Please help, thanks.

  • is this a root enumerated device? did you use devcon install or devcon update to install it? a root enumerated device does not survive recovery (or upgrade)

  • Thanks for your response.

Yes, our driver is a software only driver, should be a root enumerated device.

But how to fix this issue? We want our driver can be install back after recovery.

    thanks.
