Bing Maps no longer runs KML files ref by mapurl

  • Thanks for posting here.

You want to use the map url property in the URL. This supports KML, KMZ, GeoRSS, and GPX files.

For more information, you can refer to this link.

  • Did you even read my post???  As you can clearly see, I am using the  mapurl= in my url.  My post also says it has been working for years and just stopped working.

  • The above link seems to work well in desktop browsers. However the problem can be reproduced if you specify a non-existent file, for example: Perhaps it was a temporary problem of the server, or maybe it cannot be accessed from your devices for some reasons.

  • Dean,

I think you confused things by adding a link to a non-static file that will disappear.

My own application is failing as well.

Part of the problem is the switch to new map tools.  Part seems to be the switch to HTTPS.

I am going to investigate my own issues and will report back.

    Just for clarification ...

What worked for me no longer works.  Well, it works with Bing in NZ but not Bing in Australia.

It seems they are phasing out the old maps and it is just not supported any more.

  • Oh, and to make things more confusing, the URL below *only* works for me in Firefox.

Edge, IE, Chrome all end up failing and re-directed to the same address but with:

    added to the end.

  • Well, it's several months later but now I am back on this problem . . .

Your post of March 22, 2016 never did make sense to me because you are basically saying that if I specify a bad file name it will fail.  Well, of course it will fail if I supply a bad file name.  What does that have to do with the issue.

The following is a good url that used to work . . .

Now it does not work.  My question is WHY?  Has Bing Maps dropped support for KML?

If you don't know the answer can you point me to someone who can respond?

    Thanks, Dean

  • I wish you luck.  I can't get a straight answer out of anyone on this issue.
