  • Does IE7 work?

You could try a system repair (via booting from the install CD) and if that doesn't work, you may have to reinstall Vista.  It looks like a necessary file has been removed or changed.

  • Hi Jonanthan,

Thank you so much for replying my thread. My IE7 works, BUT, i can't access certain sites like hotmail, i can safely say something is wrong with my IE7 and gadgets ever since my system restore. IE7 loads, but it just doesn't display my hotmail page and some pages get stuck!

Can i do a repair without the installation CD?or must i boot with it just like XP to get to a blue XP screen to do a repair?

    Thank you.

  • Hey Riparian,

This is EXACTLY what happened to my Sidebar, only you have cooler wallpaper than I have.

All of my gadgets went away except for exactly the same clock that you have, that is stuck at 12:00.

For me, it seemed that it coincided with the installation of my new video card (I just put in a GeForce 8600 GT OC).

I've got an HP Pavilion Media Center TV PC that I'm running Vista on.

I've been working on it for a couple days.  My IE is also not working, for example, I was unable to reply to your posting in IE7, but it works fine in Mozilla Firefox.

Its ACTING like my Javascript is broke in IE.

When I try to load any new gadgets, they either come up "blank" or "frozen".

  • Same thing here. Happened after a Windows Update and I had my antivirus changed. IE is not working, my gadgets too.

  • I would also like to know exactly what (and how  )you did uninstall. Did you lose your files on your hard drive (never installed/uninstalled that kind of thing before).

    Maybe this can help:
    - I have a Dell Inspiron 9300.
    - I installed AVG Antivirus.
    - I uninstalled Karpersky.
    - I received a Windows Update before (I remember that it was long before it would close, many files to install).

  • ok, let me tell you what happened, i was running avast antivirus, they had this green prompt that required me to do a program update. I went ahead with it, and restarted my com. Following that, I couldn't even boot into vista.

I went into safe mode and did a system restore to the day before, and managed to boot. Next i uninstalled & reinstalled avast. ok it works, and i realized my IE7 and gadgets were all "destroyed" and i was like ok, i probably need a windows vista repair. But, suddenly one day it had this "to apply changes restart computer" prompt from avast, and i can't boot again.

This time, i went into safe mode again, but i removed avast first, and then did a system restore (notice the difference) and when i restored, it worked. And i'm on AVG now. haha. Hope this information helps a little.

    Cheers mate.
