Testing ODBC connections RRS feed

  • Question

  • Our software is able to connect to ODBC data sources in a general fashion (i.e. the user chooses a driver and connection parameters).  Often we find that they cannot connect from our software because of configuration issues (like, they are running 64-bit software but only have 32-bit drivers or vice-versa).  However, it is very hard to tell if it is our application's fault, or a configuration issue.  I've read about the "ODBC test" program (odbcw32.exe), but I cannot seem to find it in any downloads.  And while I have VS2010 Ultimate installed on Windows7, a search for this file on my hard disks turns up nothing (I have odbcad32.exe and odbcconf.exe).

Where can I find this program?  Alternatively, is there a readily-available program that will let our customers easily test their ODBC drivers and parameters?
