Time travel queries in Cosmos DB RRS feed

  • Question

  • This web page:

    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/cosmos-db/analytics-usecases#time-series-analytics-over-historic-data

includes the sentence "With Azure Cosmos DB, users have the possibility to implement the concept of time travel, being able to query and run analytics on the data retrospectively and ask for how the data looked at a specific point of time in the history". But I haven't been able to find any information on how this is done.

Some other databases (such as SQL Server 2016+, CockroachDB, and Datomic) keep a record of changes, and you are able to query the state of the data as-of an earlier point in time. But I haven't seen anywhere that says Cosmos DB does this as well.

  • Hello Denis,

Time series analytics is also referred to as Hot Path analytics and you might find more search results with those key words.

Cosmos DB is used as the data store to hold data at a specific point coming from an Event Hub or Stream analytics source.

Here is an elaborate reference architecture and ready to deploy example for you to test.

    More use cases are here
