"Debuggee not connected" on Windows 10 1607 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Anyone else having problems with WinDBG hanging up "Debuggee not connected" on Windows 10 1607 (possibly other Windows versions as I have not tested others). 3 computers here all do the same and have had other reports.

Temporary fix is to remove "*http://msdl.microsoft.com/download/symbols" from Symbol File Path so it only uses local symbols.

    Microsoft (R) Windows Debugger Version 10.0.14321.1024 AMD64
It also happens on the x86 version.

  • Turns out the issue was with the Symbol Server which has been fixed though can still be slow.

In WinDBG - File - Symbol File Path

    Mine is : SRV*C:\symbols*http://msdl.microsoft.com/download/symbols

To remove the symbol server remove : *http://msdl.microsoft.com/download/symbols
