Porting android APK's to Windows 10 mobile RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have created an android app and wish to port the Android APK across to Windows 10 Mobile. I saw online many have downloaded something on there PC and simply dragged and dropped the APK to this app and it auto installed on the phone when in developer mode. Can someone run through how I get this app on my PC or provide a link and better still walk me through the process? thank you

  • Hi Optimum63,

If you think about Project Astoria... I think that Project Astoria Bridge is on hold as they mentioned in this blog post: https://blogs.windows.com/buildingapps/2016/02/25/an-update-on-the-developer-opportunity-and-windows-10/

"We also announced the Windows Bridge for Android (project “Astoria”) at Build last year, and some of you have asked about its status. We received a lot of feedback that having two Bridge technologies to bring code from mobile operating systems to Windows was unnecessary, and the choice between them could be confusing. We have carefully considered this feedback and decided that we would focus our efforts on the Windows Bridge for iOS and make it the single Bridge option for bringing mobile code to all Windows 10 devices, including Xbox and PCs. For those developers who spent time investigating the Android Bridge, we strongly encourage you to take a look at the iOS Bridge and Xamarin as great solutions."

And you can see it here: http://www.pcworld.com/article/3038652/windows/microsoft-kills-project-astoria-the-tool-designed-to-port-android-apps-to-windows-10.html

Hope this was helpful for you...

    Best regards!

  • I have an android MPK I created myself , how would I go about porting this over to windows 10 mobile? I had used project Astoria but that seems to have shut down but it was so easy to use...

Any help on how to "use an android app" on windows 10 mobile would be greatly appreciated - Thanks in advance

  • Can't be done. I think you might be referring to Project Astoria but that was announced, destroyed all development in Windows 10 Phone and then was dropped. Sorry.
