Segoe UI variants and FontWeight property?

  • What is the mapping between the different weights of Segoe UI (Light, Semilight, Normal, Semibold, and Bold) and the FontWeight property values? The best I've been able to figure out right now is:

Thin, Light, and SemiLight all map to Segoe UI Light

Nothing maps to Segoe UI Semilight

    Normal maps to Segoe UI

Medium and SemiBold both map to Segoe UI Semibold

Bold and Black both map to Segoe UI Bold

Should the FontWeight property not be used, or is the SemiLight problem an issue that will be fixed in the future? I'd like to avoid hardcoding "Segoe UI Semilight" as the font family if I can help it.

  • There are some issues known as you've found.  But you should use family+weight...rather than weight in family name.

So: FontFamily="Segoe UI" FontWeight="Light" is what you should use instead of FontFamily="Segoe UI Light"

  • This is from a HTML5 solution, but it might help you too, as it's also in Visual Studio...

Hovering over the CSS font-weight options will tell you the weight in words (Light, Semi, etc.)

    100: Thin

    200: Extra Light (Ultra Light)

    300: Light

    400: Normal

    500: Medium

    600: Semi Bold (Demi Bold)

    700: Bold

    800: Extra Bold

    Hope it helps.
