package error while uploading windows phone 8.1 xap file RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have a windows phone 8.0 app in the store. I want to upgrade my app to windows phone 8.1. I downloaded VS 2013 and followed the steps to retarget my app to windows phone 8.1

However, when I try to submit an update, I get following error while uploading the .xap file

Invalid package identity name: 4c69df28-f6a1-463b-9b30-abde72d6001f (expected: )

Invalid package family name: 4c69df28-f6a1-463b-9b30-abde72d6001f_mhw94rhw71gr6 (expected: )

Invalid package publisher name: CN=Prajwala (expected: )

PS: I see that the app name is reserved as "AudioRecorder" (I didn't do anything about - I think it was done as part of migrating my account to new dev center). Under App Identity section of dev center I don't see any Publish/Package ID details though

    Please help!

Invalid package identity name: xxxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxx (expected: xxxxxxxxxxxxxx.xxxxxxxxxxxx)
Invalid package family name: xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-Xxxxxxxx_Xxxxxxxxx (expected: xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx.xxxxxxxxxxxxx_xxxxxxxxxxxxx)

  • Replace your existing identity name, family name and publisher by the "expected string" in the package.manifest and appmanifest file then rebuild and submit

  • Hi n4nachiket,

We looked into your app 9NBLGGH0C17S. This app does not have any identity yet - so the package identity name and package family name are expected to be empty. not sure how did you generate your packages with those invalid values.

Invalid package family name: 64...Name.Appname_22a9x81xv.... (expected: 64...Name.Appname_17vf8ahga....)

Invalid package publisher name: CN=Name (expected: CN=11E67BA8-....-4433-AD26-496EDB00....)

I cannot change package family name in the package manifest.

When i change the package publisher name to the expected, i receive the error:

  • Make sure to create an Identity (by reserving a name) first (https://dev.windows.com/en-us/dashboard/apps/9WZDNCRCVLZ9/Identity), and then associate your code project with this App in Visual Studio 2015. Visual Studio 2015 will then populate the manifest with right values.

  • Hello Frank Adim Costa,

To upload WP81 APPX, you need to create App-Identity first (https://dev.windows.com/en-us/dashboard/apps/9WZDNCRCV732/Identity); and then you need to link your project to that app in Visual Studio (to update the app manifest with right package Identity and family name).

  • I need to use FilmsInTV (the name of the windows phone 8 and windows 8.1 apps).

In linked page I cannot use this name.

Why VisualStudio break windows phone 8 manifest converting it to windows phone 8.1, why it don't use the already reserved app name ?

It's really strange. FilmsInTV is an old windows phone 8 app with a reserved name. But with new devboard this name is missing. I don't understand.

    EDIT:

    SOLVED !
I had to add windows phone 8.1 package to windows 8.1 app not to windows phone 8.0 app.

  • I'm having the same issue after updating my app "Gefahren Info", ID 9nblggh09b1t, from WP7.1 to WP8.1 Silverlight:

Invalid package identity name: 788c1ca1-0cd5-46eb-84cf-4ec8a039d5aa (expected: )
Invalid package family name: 788c1ca1-0cd5-46eb-84cf-4ec8a039d5aa_3t0epabs2a730 (expected: )

I cannot leave these values empty as I'm getting build errors then.

I was not able to reserve the name on the App Identity page in the dev center.

I copied the required values from the WMAppManifest to the Package.appxmanifest as instructed here: https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/apps/dn642081(v=vs.105).aspx

    How can I fix this?

  • Hello Thomas Pentenrieder,

App 9NBLGGH09B1T does not have a package identity yet. You need to create one @ https://dev.windows.com/en-us/dashboard/apps/9NBLGGH09B1T/Identity.

May we know why you are not able to reserve a name? Make sure you are trying to reserve an available name (FYI - the name 'Gefahren Info' is already reserved by your another app 9WZDNCRDT194 - so you cannot create App Identity for 9NBLGGH09B1T using that name. You need to use some other available name. however once you will create App Identity, you can keep using the name 'Gefahren Info' for 9NBLGGH09B1T as well.

  • Thanks for the Info. I forgot I already had reserved that name a while ago as a separate app. I have now deleted this one (there was no package uploaded to it, yet) to free up that name, but I don't think that worked.

I also cannot reserve a new / different name as I always get this message:

"We're sorry, an error has occurred. Please try again later."

    Tuesday, January 26, 2016 1:08 PM

  • "You need to use some other available name. however once you will create App Identity, you can keep using the name 'Gefahren Info' for 9NBLGGH09B1T as well."

What is difference between app name(your app tile) and app identity name(what is need reserved) regarding store search and etc?

If different app identities can have the same name what is the motivation for the name reservation?

    Tuesday, January 26, 2016 7:56 PM
  • hello devtommy,

let me try to answer your questions.

Usually every app has one unique App-Identity and a set of unique App Names. Enforcing the uniqueness is one of the main purpose of name reservation.

One App can reserve multiple App names - and uses one (or more) of those names in App Manifest. The names (used in App Manifest) are used in Store - so you can search in Store using those names. One App can have only one App-Identity. App-Identity is used by APPX-runtime - you cannot use App-Identity to search in Store.

Now there is an exception to the "unique App Names" rule. We didn't have the name-reservation concept back in days while developers developed WP7/WP8 XAP based application. We have many old WP7/WP8 applications. These Apps (and only these apps) can keep on using the old names even though the names are reserved by some other apps. these names are known as grandfathered names.

    Hi, Palash!

I have a published WP 7.5 Silverlight App which I lost the source code in my backups. I've rebuilt it from scratch as a WP 8.1 Silverlight app and I want to publish it as an update, but I'm getting the following errors when doing so:

Invalid package family name: 58415DE9DD5E3.MedicineClock_wfy4xfw7swcf0 (expected: 58415DE9DD5E3.MedicineClock_hv3da80d0654m)
Invalid package publisher name: CN=Luca (expected: CN=15991499-BC8A-4ABF-B46A-9AA656127DB2)

I was also getting the 'invalid package identity' error, but I've created an Identity for my app and fixed it on Package.appxmanifest file after reading this thread. However, I'm having the following problems when trying to fix the remaining issues:

    1. The family name field is grayed out (disabled)
    2. I can't find where to change the 'package publisher name' (I see only a 'publisher display name', which doesnt fix the issue).

I'm using Visual Studio 2015 and my app's Identity is 9NBLGGH0D7JJ.

    Thanks in advance!

Could you please re-associate your project with the right Store App in VS? VS should populate these fields (Package Identity Name, Package Family Name, Publisher Name, Publisher Id etc) correctly if you associate with right Store app.

Package acceptance validation error: The publisher display name, Daniel, specified in the package doesn’t match the publisher name, Company Inc., that’s associated with the developer account.

Anyone has any fix to this?

I do not see any option to associate the app in Visual Studio under this project type.

  • I'm having the same problem with my UWP app. I kind of guess the problem is in the local signing part as it says that the publisher name differs. It expects "sibbl" but it's "sebas" - which is my local Windows user name.

I'm using VS2015 with all updates on the latest W10 insider build 14291. My app's ID is 9NBLGGH4RBFN.
