windows 8 store Application , Using Rijndael Encryption & Decryption


  • I am trying to decrypt a string using Rijndael algorithm.

    But I could not use System.security.cryptography .Is raises "Error 1 The type or namespace name 'Cryptography' does not exist in the namespace 'System.Security' (are you missing an assembly reference?)"

    I am using Microsoft Visual Studio 2012 Express for Windows.

    Any help is appreciated.

  • You will need to use the Windows.Security.Cryptography namespace in a Windows Store app. System.Security.Cryptography does not exist for Windows Store app. You can take a look at the Cryptography sample and check out the functionality that it has to offer: http://code.msdn.microsoft.com/windowsapps/Cryptography-and-3305467b

    I used Windows.Security.Cryptography namespace. But still I could NOT find a Rijndael class in my application.

    I wish to use this class for decryption in my Windows 8 application.

    The URL "http://code.msdn.microsoft.com/windowsapps/Cryptography-and-3305467b" provided for help works with Visual Studio 2013,It is not getting imported in Visual Express 2012.

    If you get any ideas please share with me.

  • There isn't any specific class for Rijndael class, but there is AES algorithm available for Windows Store apps. For Windows 8 app samples, you will need to download the entire sample zip file and extract the Cryptography sample from it.
