  • This is a result of a newer manifest format being used on an older build system.  In Windows 8.1 the manifest changed slightly in the VisualElements area. If you use the manifest editor in VS it would show you the problematic areas and you can quickly correct them.

  • Hi Tim,

As I said i don't get any errors locally to resolve it in VS. It doesn't build on my Build Machine.

    Thanks,

    Alekhya.

  • Does the build machine have the correct SDK installed along with the correct VS packaging tasks?

  • Yes, it does have everything correctly installed. And still I keep getting the same error.

  • Was this a project that was upgraded?  If so, remove these elements from the manifest manually and see if that works.

If you try with a new project does it have the same error?

  • Try to use

    C:\Program Files (x86)\MSBuild\12.0\Bin\MSBuild.exe

    instead of

    C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v4.0.30319\MSBuild.exe

on the build server. That helped me.
