WebAuthenticationBroker.AuthenticateAsync - The system cannot locate the resource specified RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,
Hope everyone is enjoying writing Win 8 apps this week ; ) I am trying to get WebAuthenticationBroker.AuthenticateAsync to call a site hosted locally in IIS but it just times out and throws a "The system cannot locate the resource specified. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x800C0005)" error.

My certs are all generated locally with makecert and registered correctly, I can browse the site locally in IE without being warned that the certs are not trusted, and I can even can call the same site with HttpWebRequest from inside the app without any issue.

Does anyone have any ideas? I have seen a lot of people complaining about the same issue when running Fiddler, but I am not running Fiddler while the app is running.

    Thanks in advance.

  • If I move the service onto a different box and update my hosts file to point to the new box then WebAuthenticationBroker has no problem reaching it. Seems like WebAuthenticationBroker will just ignore your local machine regardless of what you do.

So it would appear that there are only two options 1) develop your service on a different box, or 2) setup a proxy server to bounce the http request back into the box as suggested on this thread http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/winappswithhtml5/thread/9e664915-b091-442b-9f17-d4eaabda3690

This is a bit of pain for dev, so hopefully there are just some other options I am not aware of.
