Surround with not working? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I was happy to see that the XAML editor in VS2013 now supports Surround With...

But, it does not seem to work for me.  I select lines to be selected, get the context menu and hit Surround With....

The Surround With: popup appears but no IntelliSense appears.  Manually entering Grid or Stackpanel results in an exception: "Object reference not set to an instance of an object."

What gives?  Am I doing it wrong?

  • Hi @jrboddie, there are no snippets included in the box yet. What you saw was something I created myself.  Email me and I will send it.

  • Additional info:

Today, I did a clean install of Windows 8.1 64-bit from the .iso and installed VS 2013 Express.

Unfortunately, I got the same negative results.  In the XAML editor, the Surround With popup appears but there is no menu of containers to use.

Surround With does work (as always) in the C# editor.

I saw this feature demonstrated in a Build talk so I conclude that the issue is with the install package for the Express edition.

  • Hey Tim...

was just trying Surround With myself... I get the menu near the bottom "Surround with:" and it lets me type in there...

From what you're saying, this is looking for a snippet?

would like to see an example of one... or a post I can blog about... :)

    Thanks!
