Problems importing a CSV file

    Question

  • Hi,

I'm unable tu update my apps since a few months already. Something goes wrong when importing a CSV file. I searched the forum for some answers, tried many things, but nothing does the job.

You can do this simple test to find out the problem. Start an app from scratch in Windows App Studio. Make a collection section and ad some rows and columns of data. Export the data to a CSV file. Delete the data in the app. Try to import the CSV file previously exported. At this point I get this message "Ups! Error importing data from the csv file. Be sure your CSV file has a header and a records structure that matches with the datasource schema and that it uses the character ';' as column separator." Trying to import the data indicating "no header", all data is imported in the first column separated by ';'

Could there be a conflict between ';' spaced data in CSV files and multilane text?

Thanks for looking into this! This problem is going on for a while now, and I am not able to update my apps.

    Thanks!

  • Hi,

We have escalated this issue to our engineering team and they are looking into this. Meanwhile, as a workaround you can import the CSVs if the text fields are delimited with quotes like:

     "MYID";"COL1";"COL2"<o:p></o:p>

    "1";"A";"Row1"<o:p></o:p>

    "2";"B";"Row2"<o:p></o:p>

    "3";"C";"Row3"<o:p></o:p>

    "4";"D";"Row4"<o:p></o:p>

    "5";"E";"Row5"<o:p></o:p>

    "6";"F";"Row6"<o:p></o:p>

    "7";"G";"Row7"<o:p></o:p>

    "8";"H";"Row8"<o:p></o:p>

    "9";"I";"Row9"<o:p></o:p>

    "10";"J";"Row10"

    Thanks.<o:p></o:p>

  • Hey Henk,

I've got the same problem like you and I tried several things but couldn't fix it.

Is there anybody out there in the windows universe who knows whats that about?

Thanks a lot - hope sb. can help us.

Apologies for the inconvenience caused. Can you please let us know your app id for us to look into this issue?

    Thanks.

  • Thanks for looking into this.

I have two apps with data imported with a csv file: appID 44206IlFiammingo.GuidaLegno and appID 44206IlFiammingo.WoodGuide

But as I explained earlier, this problem is also present in AppStudio starting a project from scratch. Hope you can solve this soon.

    Many thanks, Henk.

  • Hi,

I tried to upload data using quotes and it works perfectly!

I hope the problem can be solved by the engineering team, but in the meantime I can go ahead with the "quotes method".

Thank you App Studio Support Team!!!

  • I am having the same issue as of Oct. 11, 2016 ... more than a year after this original post. Any resolve to this issue? I will run a few experiments using the quote suggestion, but the problem is some of my fields include quotes inside of multiline text.

    Thank you.

  • Hi, has this glitch been resolved? Not so easy to insert " " around each bit of data ... large amount. I've even generated a Visual Studio 2015 package but have no idea where to put my json data and corresponding html and script. I'd rather just slip the html, java, JSON into the project and call it a day. The formula works fine when called from Dreamweaver but I am lost as to how to merge into the Windows App Studio project. Either import help or Merge help would be much appreciated.

  • Hi  Windows App Studio Support Team,

Glitch still exists and am not exactly sure what you mean for the above example ...

     "MYID";"COL1";"COL2"<o:p></o:p>

    "1";"A";"Row1"<o:p></o:p>

    "2";"B";"Row2"<o:p></o:p>

    "3";"C";"Row3"<o:p></o:p>

    etc....

Are you saying to export the files using Data >> Text to Columns and saving the file as a csv?

If so, not allowing me to convert my 5 column file with over 300 rows.

Any help would be appreciated -- this is THIRD REQUEST.

    Thanks.
