How to know "Purchase Date" of an app in WP8 RRS feed

  • Question

  • I've build an WP8 app that offers a trial experience, but know I want to make it free with an ads banner. Obviously now I don't want to show ads to people that already purchased my app, but only to old "try" customer and "future" customer. Is it a way to implement this? How can I know purchase date of my app?

  • There isn't a great way to convert from a trial / paid to a free / in-app purchases system while maintaining the initial paid status. A "free" app counts as purchased the first time it is acquired.

For a WP8.1 app you can approximate this by getting the receipt from Currentapp.GetAppReceiptAsync and check the date there. On WP8 you can call GetProductReceiptAsync.

This is a bit of an off-label use of the receipts though and it may not work for this in all cases (for example, switching the app from a Silverlight app to a Runtime app may count as a new purchase since the AppId changes).
