Porting Windows Phone App RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

I've a Windows Phone 8.1 Silverlight app. With the release of Windows (Phone) 10, I'm asking myself how I can port my app to the new platform.

Is it possible to port a Windows Phone 8.1 Silverlight app to Windows 10?

Or will I have to rewrite my app?

Thank you for you help and best regards,
    Patrick

  • This DVLUP challenge suggests that the XAML apps aka Universal apps will work on Windows 10.

  • Thank you for the feedback. My app is related to phones only, i.e. not for desktop PCs. So, I think a universal app is not required. Maybe, there will be a possibility to port directly from Windows Phone 8.1 to version 10...

  • My guess is the silverlight apps will still work on W10 (phone). My guess is also that support for silverlight apps will slowdown, and windows runtime apps will (are) the new standard. Doesn't matter if you want it to run on phones only or PC's only - it will run on both (if you want it to).
