Save As dialog using IFileDialog interface saves file to incorrect location RRS feed

  • Question

  • I've been observing a strange problem when creating a file browser dialog using Microsoft IFileDialog interface. On digging down further I observed that this issue exists in all the MS Office applications.

    Steps:

    • Open any MS Office application, say MS Word.
    • Create a new file.
    • Go to File->Save As
    • Click on "This PC" in the Navigation pane.
    • Now click on "Save" button.

    Expected Result:
    Save operation should not be allowed in "This PC" location.

    Actual Result:
    The file gets saved at:

    C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Network Shortcuts

    OS detail:
    Windows 10, Version 1709 (OS Build 16299.1625)

    Is this a known issue? Why does Windows Save a file at this strange location?
