  • Is this an XNA or Silverlight+XNA project type?  (These project types cannot be upgraded.)

What "reference" is the error talking about?

  • Greetings Pallam,

Make sure that the Windows Phone 7.1 version of project has a reference to System.Core.dll and mscorlib.dll before the upgrade.

Let me know if that does not work for you.

    Thanks and Regards,

  • I had the same issue and found that my project was missing the System.Code.dll reference. I wasn't able to add it via Visual Studio. Instead I needed to use notepad to update the csproj. After that the reference was present and the WP8 upgrade succeeded.
