Why does Microsoft bother to make tools like TouchDevelop.com? RRS feed

  • General discussion

  • Microsoft creates tools like touchdevelop.com and claim they can be used to make Windows 8 apps. But if you try to make any app with it, it's rejected because of using non-API methods, among other things.

  • Hi twocs, TouchDevelop only uses documented WinRT APIs. If your app was rejected, please report this issue at TouchDevelop @ Microsoft.com.

  • This is one of the easiest, aesthetic applications to remove the doubt of having to buy 3rd party tools to make a webpage app using Node.JS, ApacheCordova look very native and polished. It's not in the 2015 extensions gallery as far as I know. You proved the point that serious apps can run on JS+HTML5 technology, how about an extension for the more productive IDE now 2015? The Visual Studio IDE is the only product which keeps me buying the licenses to run Windows as my dev/PC OS right now.

Windows doesn't dominate as the target platform for software as it once had.
