[UWP][WinJS] App shutdown with 'Access violation' after updating Microsoft Ads SDK to last version RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi!

I updated Microsoft Ads SDK to last version (10.1807.9.0) and now, my app exite every time when ad is called. App exite without errors, but in output log in Visual Studio I see:

The program '[12568] WWAHost.exe" has exited with code -1073741819 (0x0000005) 'Access violation'

Before the update, everything worked without problems. I tried to use test ad's values and id's, but I get the same result. Why it happens?

I use Visual Studio 2017, App target version SDK 10.0.17763.0, Microsoft Ads SDK 10.1807.9.0

  • Hello!

I'm using simple example from here: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/uwp/monetize/interstitial-ad-sample-code-in-javascript

Changing `MicrosoftNSJS.Advertising.InterstitialAdType.video` to `MicrosoftNSJS.Advertising.InterstitialAdType.display` cause app to crash on requestAd.
    Video ads are working fine.
I wanted to attach a screenshot, but your system doesn't allow me.

    Any fix for that?
    Thank you!

  • Hi hujvam,

I test the sample with video and display, both of them run correctly. What's your Advertising SDK version and application targeted? Is it a JavaScript WinJS App (Universal Windows) project ? Did you clean and rebuild your app after the replacement?

    Best regards

  • Both VS and Ads SDK were installed a week ago, so latest versions.

It is JavaScript WinJS App (Universal Windows) project, I just copy/pasted everything from sample.

As I said, video ad is working, display is crashing.

Here is the similar problem from another user: https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/0b5b9742-2511-40e4-b1fb-4599fd972e4d/uwpwinjs-app-shutdown-with-access-violation-after-updating-microsoft-ads-sdk-to-last-version?forum=aiasdk

I still can't post screenshots here, because of the "Body text cannot contain images or links until we are able to verify your account". Any fix for this forum thing as well???

    Crash screenshot: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1Cm9BBLarqa_Y_NdYaDMDtYTpPy6ZeRce

    VS and SDK versions: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1gD5PDQcUtyi_N1cX1SRddfqn7ZSIcxGu

    App target: https://drive.google.com/open?id=11cXBAWkLV36RiQ0VSLz6Ytxp1VuUuSFr

I also tried to see requests with Fiddler, again with video ad everything is fine and I see all the requests. With display there is no request at all, app crashes before making any.

  • Where can I download previous (working) version of SDK???
    Thursday, March 7, 2019 3:16 PM
  • Hello hujvam!

Do you found any previous version of SDK?

    Thursday, March 21, 2019 1:28 PM
  • Hey creakosta!
    No, I couldn't find.
Do you still have older version?
    Thursday, March 21, 2019 6:08 PM
  • I have the msi installer for the previous version but I don't know if I can share it.

You can always install an older version from 2017 via NuGet package manager.

  • Hi all!

Yes, it also does not work for me. I tried installing the old version of Visual Studio, the Windows SDK and Ads SDK, but I got the same result. Apparently the problem is not in the ad sdk, perhaps the ad server incorrectly processes the request or something like that.

  • Hello Daisy Tian

I was able to accidentally find a workaround for this problem. I reinstalled windows on my PC, reinstalled a visual studio 2017, opened a project in which the advertisement didn't work, and then installed the js advertising sdk (10.1705.16001) through the NuGet and it worked! Then I decided to install the latest version of the advertising sdk through the .msi package and again I got this access violation error. I got this error even after I reinstalled the ad sdk through NuGet. The error disappeared only when I reinstalled windows and visual studio again. I don’t know why, but I was able to get around this problem, maybe this information will be useful for the advertising team if they want to fix this error.
