WebBrowser control crashes RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,
i've problems with a windows forms application that sometimes crashes outside the clr (no exception is thrown)
    on a specific client.
The error report shows a problem in mshtml.dll i told the customer to do windows update but the error occurred again (and is apparently random)
the versions of mshtml.dll are 8.0.6001.18975 and now 8.0.6001.19046 (windows xp sp3).
may it be some additional component of ie8 ? should we do a clean windows install to solve it ?
The client has a lot of applications opened (at the time of the crash) and 3 instances of ie8 (he does not use tabs) plus my application.
My code uses the WebBrowser control Navigate method to browse htmls saved on the local file system.
    No problems with other clients.

    Thanks
    Manuel

  • Hi Manuel,

I think the users' IE8 also crash frequently, right?

If so, I think this is not a your application problem, it is the IE problem in the users' system, since WebBrowser is also used the component of IE, so if there's something not good also can cause the WebBrowser not works fine. And then I suggest you go to the IE forum.

And please read the following discussion, maybe the solution in it can solve those users' problem.

You also can add a try-catch block in the main function, and write the exception information to the txt file, if there is. And you also can choose just write a simple WebBrowser application to test in those users' pc system.

And you also can open the event viewer to look for more error information for analysis.
