How to create a .MSI Installer with dependencies of other MSI Files

    Question

  • Hi Guys,

My Application has the Prerequisite Visual C++ Runtime Libraries that I have checked on Project Properties\Prerequisite.  But when I build the Solution appears a new folder vcredist_x86 with the file vcredist_x86.exe that i suppose that has to be installed together.

I am also using Microsoft SQL Server Compact 3.5 and Microsoft has confirmed that has a problem in the product KB974247. To fix this problem I have to install the follow files on a 64-bit Computer:

    SSCERuntime_x64-ENU.msi and SSCERuntime_x86-ENU.msi

I would like to know if there is any way I can create just one .MSI File to install my application and their dependencies.

    Regards,

  • No you can't. MSI-based installs can't call other MSI-based installs. That's a major reason for the prerequisites mechanism of installing the .NET Framework, SQL Express, VC Redist etc from the setup.exe before installing your MSI file.
