Private IP rDNS for Linux Mail server RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi I installed CWP on Centos 7 on an Azure VM. I have set the rDNS for the public IP and this is working.

The problem is on the private IP. The rDNS resolves to the internal.cloudapp.net and I cannot seem to be able to get beyond this problem to be able to set the internal rDNS to return the hostname. This is causing the mails to be stuck in the mail queue.

I have tried setting a private DNS on the portal, but this did not make a difference. Please advise what am I missing.

  • As is discussed in the Name Resolution for Virtual Machines doc, If you want to configure the reverse DNS name for VMs in an Azure VNET, you will need to either use a DNS Private Zone, or use private DNS servers and manually configure the record you need.

If you are using a private DNS server, look into the documentation for the private DNS server you are using for how to configure a reverse DNS record.
