.NET 4 Install Error - Generic Trust Failure RRS feed

    I am really hoping someone can assist with this issue as I've attempted every possible solution I can find online so far.  Below is the HTML log file that the instaler creates using the Web Installer:

    This install is being attempted on a Server 2008 R2 Enterprise 64 bit server.  I have attempted to run this as the domain admin account as well as my own domain administrator account.  I have also attempted to launch it with the right-click "run as administrator" option with the same result.

    I have also attempted installing this from the standalone installer, web installer, and Windows Update all ending in errors.  The Windows Update error code is 800B010B.  I also tried the standalone and web installer version of the .NET 4 Client with the same error.

    I attempted to follow Sophie2011's solution here: http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/netfxsetup/thread/522d9bf5-686a-4a47-b6f1-5bed792a45ff but I could not find the rootsupd.exe for Server 2008 R2.  I also followed YiChun Chen's solution on the same page with no progress. 

    I need to get the .NET4 running for one of the applications we need to run on this server.  Please let me know if there is anything else I can try to get this to install correctly.

  • Hi Curtis,

    Based on the error message, it looks like that your concern might be related to the FileHash verification of SetupUtility.

    For your concern, could you please try to use other web browser or some download manager software to download .NET Framework 4.0 Standalone installer again?

    For the ISO installer, you can extract the ISO image to your local computer by using something like WinZip and run the installation from the harddrive/harddisk.

    If the problem still exists, could you please try the following steps to collect the log files?

    - Try to clean your "%temp%" folder (Start Menu >> Run >> Type "%temp%")
    - Install .NET Framework 4.0
      (The installer must be run with administrator privileges - Right-click the installer >> "Run as Administrator")
    - Collect the logs from "%temp%" folder
       Collect tool: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=e0da314f-6216-4a18-bc6b-7d29cf83af20&displaylang=en
    - Send vslogs.cab file to me (v-yicche@microsoft.com)
      Note: Please attach the link of this post in the mail.
