COM+ Do I need to re-add component after interface change? RRS feed

  • Question

  • If I have a COM component registered with COM+ and I make a minor revision to the COM component, i.e. additions to its interface, and re-register it using regsvr32, do I also need to also re-add it to the COM+ application for it to pick up the interface additions?

If it does need to re-added, would the consequence of not doing so mean that any application which tries to use the new interface would not have the COM objects managed by COM+?

    Thanks,

    Mike.

  • If you use regsvr32 you mess up the registry so that it is no longer a COM+ component. Yes, you will require to delete and re-add it to Component Services. If you don't call regsv32 and you don't change the interface, then you can simply overwrite the old DLL and that saves you a few steps.
