  • Hi OwnageTool,

    Welcome to the MSDN forum.

    From your latest log:

    09/02/11 15:18:25 DDSet_Error: Failed to install assembly C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v4.0.30319\ISymWrapper.dll. IAssemblyCache->InstallAssembly() returned -2147024891.

    09/02/11 15:18:25 DDSet_Error: Failed to install assembly 'C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v4.0.30319\ISymWrapper.dll' because of system error: Access is denied.

    Just as what Heath said, the root cause of your installation failure is “Access is denied”. Have you tried Heath’s suggestions? Did it work?

    I recommend you try to delete the folder “v4.0.30319” under this path “C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\” before you begin to install .NET Framework 4. For more information, you can refer to this page: http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/vssetup/thread/8655d21b-259b-449d-a0f4-0b94cdc353a1/

    If an assembly file in the GAC (Global Access Cache) has been locked or is "in use" it can cause .NET Framework patches to fail. For more information, you can refer to this page: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=2263996

    Then, Secondly, please try using the SubInACL tool to repair file and registry permissionshttp://blogs.msdn.com/astebner/archive/2006/09/04/739820.aspx
    SubInACL tool is most useful when a setup package fails with error code 5 or 0x5 or 0x80070005. All of these error codes mean Access Denied, and this type of error code is often caused by missing ACLs for the Administrators group or the built-in System account.

    Thirdly, please try the workaround mentioned in this similar thread:
    Windows Update Error 0x80070005
    http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/vistawu/thread/a9a2c92d-793b-4050-bdb1-720bb97bd78d

    If you have any other concerns, please feel free to let me know.

  • Uh i tried all of the steps above and it still gives me the error.

  • Two Different errors were found in your logs

    0x240006 http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en/netfxsetup/thread/7c514d5f-d0fb-47c5-874a-18dc4835cb5c

    0x80070643 (the link i posted in my previous post )

    If both the solutions above fails to correct this problem then

    The logs are incomplete i suggest that you follow the steps below and create a new logs by this utility.

    Delete every thing in TEMP Folder

    start your .net framework 4 installation again if it fails then use the Collect utility to collect logs, Upload the generated Cab file and paste a link here.

  • Setup is not able to install an assembly:

    09/02/11 09:57:11 DDSet_Error: Failed to install assembly C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v4.0.30319\ISymWrapper.dll. IAssemblyCache->InstallAssembly() returned -2147024891.

    Typically transient errors such as this are caused by the file being in use (unlikely; the file shouldn't be installed yet) or if - while copying - something like anti-virus locks the file in use. If you have anti-virus software, try temporarily disabling it / pausing it and see if you're able to get passed this error.

  • this is a mess.. I'm having the same problems with a vista machine. had a MS online tech take over my machine...he fixed it halfway. but i still crash and lock up.

    this is causing my CPU and/or disk to max out an a regular basis. nothing like watching resource monitior peg out at 100% on both at the same time.

    its doing something with scvhost.exe...?

    nice update MS.   i hope they sort this out soon
