# How to compile VSTO for Office 64 bit?

• ### Question

• All

I created an Outlook VSTO in Visual Studio 2015.  I used InstallShield LE to create a package which I distribute to computers inside my company.  This plug in works fine in Outlook 2019 32bit.

I now have to deploy the plug on some computers with Outlook 2019 64 bit.  After the installation with the installer I created before, the plug in becomes not visible in Outlook 2019 64 bit (which is of course understandable.)

So to solve this, I choose in my Visual Studio "x64" as compilation method, but after installing this package on the Office 64 bit-computer, the plugin becomes not visible. Besides that, the program is also still installed in c:\program files (x86)

I neither find some option in the "InstallShield LE" where I can indicate a 64bit installer must be created.

So what steps must I take to create a 64bit installer which installs the plugin so it is available in Outlook 64 bit?

Regards

• Hello,

If you change the target platform to the x64 value the target folder and windows registry keys will not be changed. That's not enough unfortunately. I'd recommend carefully reading the Deploy an Office solution by using Windows Installer article which describes the required steps for creating installers for both x86 and x64 Office versions.
