Visual Studio 2015 Shell and GIT RRS feed

  • Question

  • We have taken on support for a system that has been developed in Visual Studio 2013 Pro.  The developer was a contractor who worked on his own laptop.  Since he left we are trying to build a development environment.  The server I've been given has got SSDT (SQL Server Data Tools) on it, and Visual Studio 2015 and 2015 (Shell versions).

The code is in a GIT repository running on the local network.  We're trying to get Visual Studio 2015 to connect to it but not having much luck.  The machine, and internet access, are locked down so I don't have full Admin access.

    A few questions:
    * Is Visual Studio 2015 Shell able to interact with GIT?  I've tried GitHub Extension for Visual Studio - it won't install and says "This extension is not installable on any currently installed products."
    * If not is there a plugin I can install to enable access to GIT from Visual Studio 2015 Shell?

If I require the full version of Visual Studio 2015 the client will want a valid reason to buy a license.

    TIA
