  • Okay so this must have changed recently.

I have a located a local copy on an internal server, but if you search the executables name(SQL2000-KB899761-v8.00.2040-x86x64-ENU.exe) in google and veiw the cached version of the page (it was cached as of Nov 4th 2009) you can see that it used to exist.  However now it is broken.

  • It looks like some download pages have been removed (or unavailable currently)

This hotfix will update SQL server to 2040.0

     2000.80.2040.0 9,150,464 Sqlservr.exe x86

I suggest you apply the more recent generally available Post-Sp4 hotfix 2187

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/916287

However , the download page for that hotfix doesn't work either.

Strangely , the Itanium platform download page works

More strange but good is that the direct link for 32-bit edition works

  • That hotfix is very old.  Please use the most current "cumulative update" for 2000 SP4.

  • At the bottom of that article it states

"UPDATE: Microsoft has found an issue with the final build of SP4 that impacts customers who run SQL Server with AWE support enabled. This problem does not affect ia64 platforms. On x86 and x64 systems, the problem only impacts customers with more than 2 gigabytes (GB) of memory (available only with the Enterprise, Developer, and Evaluation editions) where AWE has been enabled and more than half of the total system memory is being allocated to a single SQL Server instance. Customers with this configuration should obtain and apply the hotfix specified in article 899761 of the Microsoft Knowledge Base after upgrading to SP4."

I am having problems with AWE working for SQL 2000 with10gb of memory on several 2003 servers.  After running the SP4 patch above I am at SQL version 8.00.2282 SP4 standard edition.  Does this version include the AWE hot fix stated above?

  • We have SQL Enterprise Edition running in production by the way, the SQL Standard Edition is running in our lab environment.

  • Before we mark this as an answer i believe that a better explanation is in order.

    http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/894905

First refrences the 8.00.2040 hotfix of which the link is still broken.

Second the only time the Word "Cumulative" appears on the page is in the title.

The only time AWE appears on the page is in the refrence to the hotfix for 8.00.2040, which is still  broken.

If there is another hotfix on that page that would suffice for 8.00.2040 then please identify it.

    on the page it says.

"SQL Server 2000 build 8.00.2040 includes the same hotfix that SQL Server 2000 build 8.00.2141 includes. SQL Server 2000 build 8.00.2040 is a general distribution release (GDR) update. The hotfix that is included in SQL Server 2000 build 8.00.2040 is the first hotfix that was released after SQL Server 2000 SP4."

    However

Under 8.00.2141 it does not list AWE issues resolving memory as something this hotfix solves.  As a matter of fact, the above sentence points to 8.00.2040 as containing the hotfix that 2141 does nto the other way around

Are you suggesting that we use 8.00.2141 in place of 2040?

has anyone tested this and confirmed it?

I'm sure that there are a lot of folks out there still running 2000 systems that have not yet upgraded that would like to know this.

I'm one of them, I'll change my baseline patch level for 2000 systems if that is the case.  but Please I would like a little clarification as the link's explination and the previous answer is not as me and some other folks are hoping for.

    Thanks,

  • All patches are "cumulative".  Any build greater than 2040 has the patch already included.

I would suggest you go to the most current version of 2000, which is build 8.00.2249.

  • Hi Brad,

As Tom commented, the hotfix 899761 is included in build 8.00.2249.

If we have updated the SQL Server 2000 to 8.00.2249, it means we have applyed hotfix 899761.

    Thanks,

  • Thank you very much for the clarification.  I will move my baseline from .2040 to .2249

And sorry to be repeatitive, but if I download .2249, that will cover all updates required since the release of SP 4 and the AWE hotfix.

    Thanks again for the info.
