Lightswitch nolonger used for desktop applications ? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am just curious,  in VS 2013 there is alot of support for the HTML Client side of doing things and not alot of resources anymore for the Desktop client,   so is the desktop client dead moving forward and will lightswitch only be used to build mobile and cloud applications ?

  • Hi,

Visual Studio LightSwitch 2013 still has desktop client and html client.

There is many resources about desktop client before 2013 version that still works for 2013 .

Because HTML client is a new template in lightswitch 2013 , so you will see many new documents about it.

You could check Visual Studio LightSwitch Team Blog  to get more resources:

  • Lightswitch desktop is based on silverlight and that will be end of support in 2021.

Sounds scary but in IT science time perspective it's still a very long time especially when you know that you can build a complete app with LS desktop for the price of an analysis document when using other  frameworks.

i would still start an app today in LS desktop and rewrite it in 3 years to angular 2.3.447 based on the best prototype I ever had, the working LS app.
