Visual Studio Ultimate 2012 Fatal Error during installation RRS feed

  • Question

  • I tried to install Update 2 for visual studio and it failed.  Tried to remove it, and it failed.  Couldn't get VS to work after that so I decided to reinstall VS without Update 2 and now that installation fails.

I used the ISO I used a couple of months ago and then downloaded a new ISO and it fails as well.  Didn't have a problem installing VS before.  I've gotten different errors with each attempt, with "user has canceled" most of the time.  I know I didn't cancel them.

Here is my vslogs.cab from log Collection:

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Justin

  • Hi Justin,

    Thanks for your post.

The following error was found from your logs:

ExecuteError: Package (vs_premiumcore) failed: Error Message Id: 1406 ErrorMessage: Error 1406.Could not write value LowLevelHooksTimeout to key \SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Control Panel\Desktop.   Verify that you have sufficient access to that key, or contact your support personnel.

Please try this tool to fix your OS: http://support.microsoft.com/mats/Program_Install_and_Uninstall

If the tool did no help, try manually give full control to that key from "regedit"->Edit->Permission.

Restart the installation and share your result here.

  • Hi Barry,

I had tried to manually give full control to the key using regedit but it didn't work.  I had contacted the IT department and walked in this morning to a new computer.  Good news, the install works.  Bad news, I'm installing everything else now.  The fix it tool seems pretty handy, I didn't know about it, and unfortunately didn't get to try it.  Thanks for the help though, much appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Justin

  • I am on Windows 7 x64 with Service Pack 1 installed.  I have tried everything that I can to install Visual Studio.  I have used the disc that came with my textbook to install visual studio express 2012 and I get a fatal error.  I tried downloading ultimate and professional and burning .iso to disc , web installer and installing and I get the same errors.  I do not know how to check for a corrupt download, but all of the downloads can not be corrupt, can they?  I even tried Dreamspark' s download and .iso.

I tried repairing all of the installations. Same problem.

I just figured out how to run collect.exe.  I will upload my file. Please help me I need this for school.
