Remoting & debugger visualizer RRS feed

  • Question

  • I'd like to use the debugger visualizer to browse the properties of a remoted object, but when I mouseover it, the type is {System.Runtime.Remoting.Proxies.__TransparentProxy} and it doesn't contain the properties I expect (that show in intellisense).

Similar behavior happens in the Locals, Autos, Watch, and Immediate windows when I try to get the value of a property.

When I try to evaluate a boolean property, I get this error: "Cannot obtain fields or call methods on the instance of type '{object type}' because it is a proxy to a remote object"

Is there some way to interact with remoted objects?  The visualizer is a really good way to explore a new object hierarchy, but it seems unavailable this way.

I know I could assign properties to local values in my code and then inspect the local values, but that kind of negates the value of the visualizer...

Anyone run across this?  Is there a debugger visualizer that is able to travel across the remote boundary?
