Visual Studio - Integrated Specification Design RRS feed

  • Question

  • Looking for a solution to manage Specification Design Requirements integrated with Visual Studio and TFS. A solution that supports contents in foreign languages other than english, in a similar manner to how VS & TFS support for such languages.

There used to be a UML design tool embedded within VS till Version 2017 in which the tool was deprecated. Found a potential tool by modern requirements as referred in available documentation, and looking for additional solutions. Thank u.

  • Hi,

    Welcome to MSDN forum.

Starting with Visual Studio 2017, the UML Designers have been removed from Visual Studio, but we can still use Visual Studio 2015 or earlier versions to use UML.

    https://devblogs.microsoft.com/devops/uml-designers-have-been-removed-layer-designer-now-supports-live-architectural-analysis/

We continue to support visualizing of the architecture of .NET and C++ code through code maps, and for this release have made some significant improvements to Layer (dependency) validation.

    Best regards,

    Joyce

  • Thank you for your reply.

I would think no point to start new UML designs with VS 2015 since it is deprecated from VS 2017.

Code maps is useful for reverse engineering & debugging of existing code, however what we're looking for is an solution to manage specification / requirements document integrated with TFS work items.

If there's such a solution, it can be great. Thanks

  • We're already using work items to specify the requirements. We use them in hierarchy of Epic, Feature, PBI, ... Thus, in practice we have the specification expressed in the work items. However, work items are somewhat less convenient for clients to relate to. Usually clients prefer a Word document. Hence we're looking for a means to use both documentation means in an integrated manner. The tool of modern requirements is an example of means to integrate. We'ré looking forward to find more such means.
