Offline activation of Visual Studio 2013 Express (license has expired) RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

I have a need to install VS Express on a few pre-prod servers. Those servers do not have access to Internet for security reasons.

So far (until version 2012), I was able anyway to do a permanent activation of Visual Studio without the need for an internet connection.

I have started to evaluate Visual Studio 2013 Express and installed a copy on one of those servers. Today the temporary activation has expired, and I don't find anyway to permanently activate VS 2013 Express without internet connectivity.

    1. Is it a specific limitation for the RC version that is going to be removed with the RTM ?

    2. In case it is a new requirement from MS, how should we deal with cases like mine where we don't always have access to Internet (typically on servers). Is there a way to use a 3rd party computer as a proxy to generate a license request, etc. ? Anything else ?

    Regards.

  • The RTM Express 2013 SKUs will continue to require internet access to extend the license beyond the trial period. But the paid SKUs (Professional, Premium, and Ultimate) will not. The sign-in requirement for  VS2013 Pro, Prem, Ult, SKUs was only enabled for the Preview and Release Candidate drops, to ensure enough traffic to properly test the back end services.

At this time, I don't believe there are any plans to allow for bypassing that requirement.

    Sincerely,
