Expand menu's child items from code

Question

I have a TextBox a the header item of a menuitem. When the user clicks on that textbox or changes the Text I need it to expand and show it's child menuitems. I can't for the life of me find the way to make it show it's child items. What is the property or method to force the child menu to expand?
