  • Question

  • Hello all, I am trying to better understand users/group and permissions. On some of my sites(disclaimer- i enhirated the site and everything with it) have "Site collection administration" but it doesnt have access to all the sites so my questions are:

    1. what is the purpose for "Site collection administration"

2.can you have more than on Site collection administration" ie Site collection administration2 something to that effect?

    3. is this created by default like Sp_farmAdmin?

    4. what is the difference in Site collection administration vs sp_admin/sp_farmadmin?

  • Hi,

    1. A site collection administrator can configure the appearance and behavior of the site, configure search settings and site directory settings, and allocate storage space.

    2.  A site collection can have one or two administrators.

3.It’s created when you create the site collection, the user you typed in primary or secondary site collection administrator.

    4. SharePoint farm administrators control settings in the SharePoint Central Administration Web site – that is, settings that apply to all the site collections in your organization’s SharePoint deployment.

  • Note that there is no limit on the number of Site Collection Administrators.  You can add additional SCAs via the SharePoint site itself.

SCAs can control just about everything of the Site Collection, including deleting it.

  • For sites, it basically goes:

Farm Administrator -> Web Application Policy User -> Site Collection Administrator -> Site Owner
