Failure installing VS2010 SP1 to Ultimate on Windows 7 x64 Ultimate (UrlMon download failed with 800c0006)

    Question

  • I attempted to update my Visual Studio 2010 Ultimate on my Windows 7 Ultimate x64 PC and it failed. I tried first using the Platform Installer a day or two ago. Some things installed but not the SP1. Then today I downloaded the install and ran it locally after unblocking it and running it as admin. It also failed.

    I ran the Collect and will upload the cab file to my skydrive:

        http://cid-aa3d9a8f13285226.office.live.com/self.aspx/Public/vslogs.cab

    This was the ending of the install log file showing the error message.

    Please help me get this installed. I appreciate your help.

    Thanks,

    Gary Davis

  • Hi Gary Davis,

    Welcome to the MSDN Forum.

    I have checked the installation logs from the link in your post.

    Seems like you are using the web installer to download and install Visual Studio SP1 at the same time. Also, for the error code: 0x800C0006 -> INET_E_OBJECT_NOT_FOUND = The site reports that the item you requested could not be found. (HTTP/1.0 404).

    To resolve your issue, I would suggest you to download an ISO image file to install the Visual Studio 2010 SP1.

    You can download it via the link below: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=210710

    The ISO checksum can be found at: http://blogs.msdn.com/b/heaths/archive/2011/03/25/verify-the-iso-checksum-for-visual-studio-2010-service-pack-1-before-installing.aspx

    After download, you can either:

    -          Extract the ISO image, to your local computer, that you have just created using something like ISOBuster and run the installation from the hard drive/hard disk;

    -          Mount the ISO image to a virtual CD drive, using another 3rd party tool something like MSVCD, and run the installation from here.

    Prior to installation, you should carefully review the readme to be aware of any known issues with this release.

    Before install Visual Studio 2010 SP1, please finish the steps below:

    -          Turn off your anti-virus/antispyware software during installation;

    -          Install the latest Windows updates from the Windows Update site: http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com;

    -          Complete or dismiss Windows Update before installation. (And don't forget to turn it on later);

    -          Clean your %temp% folder (Start Menu >> Run >> Type "%temp%);

    Then please run the setup with Administrator privilege: right-click the installer -> Run as administrator.

    If the installation fails again, please collect the logs from "%temp%" folder with the Log Collection Tool.

    -          Collect tool: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=e0da314f-6216-4a18-bc6b-7d29cf83af20&displaylang=en

    -          Then you can send the vslogs.cab file to me for further support (E-mail: : v-anwu_at_microsoft_dot_com).

    Note: Please attach the link of this post in the mail.

    If you have any concerns, please feel free to let me know.

  • Hi,

    Can microsoft just post a downloadable installer of VS2010 Ultimate SP1? The links are already non-existing. I have been trying to install this for a month now. :(

    Best regards,
