Visual Studio 2013 Express for Enterprise RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi All,

I would like to double check, can I use Visual Studio 2013 express in my case?

I wrote a small ASP.net MVC app for my company(for my team, only a few people) used by Visual Studio Express.

So I do not want to sell and I wrote this at home in my free time. The only problem is that is worrying me. I have read in term of Visual Studio Community edition, enterprise size companies can't used that tool. As far as know there is no any similar restriction on Visual Studio Express edition, but I want to make sure.

I found these terms for the two products:

    MICROSOFT VISUAL STUDIO COMMUNITY 2015
    www visualstudio com /support/legal/mt171547

    MICROSOFT VISUAL STUDIO EXPRESS 2015
    www visualstudio com /en-us/mt171551.aspx

(Sorry, I had to remove points from link as I am new user on this forum)

And this is the section that worrying me in the term of Community edition.

    "

If you are an enterprise, your employees and contractors may not use the software to develop or test your applications, except for open source and education purposes as permitted above. An "enterprise" is any organization and its affiliates who collectively have either (a) more than 250 computers or users or (b) more than one million US dollars (or the equivalent in other currencies) in annual revenues, and "affiliates" means those entities that control (via majority ownership), are controlled by, or are under common control with an organization.

  • Dear Krisz,

    Welcome to the MSDN forum.

According to your description, you want to know the ASP.net MVC app that you wrote can used for your company or not, right?

I have read the license terms of community/express versions and my understanding is as below:

For Express edition: Installation and Use. One user may use copies of the software to develop and test their applications. There has no description about the restriction of the users, you should can use it to develop and use it for your work requirement.

For Community edition: There has some restrictions for the organization, the enterprise has up to 5 of individual users can use the software concurrently to develop and test your applications. An enterprise over 5 individual developers can use it only for open source and education purposes.

Generally speaking, as far as I know, you continue to use the express version in your case.

    Best regards,

    Sara
