Unable to register AzureStack (ASDK), Creation of service principal failed: Action plan execution failed. Error: Execution timeout RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am trying to register ASDK.

Error: Creation of service principal failed:  Action plan execution failed. Error: Execution timeout

    Version: 1.2002.0.35

I already looked into this thread on MSDN which resolves issue by increasing execution timeout to 1800, but execution timeout on my setup is already at 1800.

I have reinstalled whole setup two times from scratch based on one another recommendation.

  • There is no limit for the number of times you can register a subscription to the ASDK, and you should not need to un-register it after each installation. I have personally registered several versions without unregistering.

Everything looks great, but the low timeout makes me wonder if something else is going on.

Have you tried to register the ASDK in a disconnected environment? Doing the authentication on a different computer or network might allow this to go through.

  • This is quite strange!

The execution times are: 1m 26s, 1m 24s, 1m 23s which is way below the previous default timeout.

Can you follow steps 1 - 4 here to run test-azurestack on the ASDK to make sure all roles are up and running?

  • Yes this is strange. We are following all the steps. Multiple members of my team tried to register this setup but same results.
I have a hunch that it is not working because we already registered ASDK server once before. We had a working/registered ASDK server before, registered on same Azure subscription. Due to some problem that server crashed and we lost it before de-registering it from Azure. Is there any limitation that only one ASDK server can be registered at a time? There is no mention of the same on any MS doc.

Below is output for Test-AzureStack command.

  • We tried with the disconnected scenario before and it responded with same timeout error. But today out of the blue it worked. I don't know what changed registration server side but client side was the same as before.

    TravisCragg_MSFT, Thanks for your help :) .
