1935 and 2908 Error while installing Visual Basic 2010 Express

  • I have read all the solutions to this problem but none seems to be working for me. I have a Windows Vista SP1 32 Bit Laptop. I have tried installing this software over and over to no avail. Please help! I need this software for class and it is so tough trying to pass this class without it. I have installed and reinstalled .net framework. I also tried deleting the mscoree.dll file but I wasn't able to delete it for reasons unknown. I collected my logs like the other thread suggested and I will attach the snapshot of the 1935 Error. Thanks so much in advance.

  • Hi DixonPhyl,

    Welcome to the MSDN forum.
    From your error, 0x8002802F means “Function not defined in specified DLL”. There are a few possible root causes of this issue. The most common cause is that the file %windir%\system32\mscoree.dll is missing, corrupt or an incorrect version. In most cases, repairing the highest version of the .NET Framework on the system will correct any problems related to mscoree.dll and will resolve the problem if this is the case. Please refer to this blog

    For that mscoree.dll , you can’t delete it since it is a system file. So you can try to solve your issue by these steps:
      1.Try this command to repair your OS :”sfc /scannow”(Or you can copy this dll from other computer which is the same to your OS, but I do not recommend you do this)
      2.Use the Visual Studio 2010 Uninstall Utility to remove the failed Visual Basic components.
        You can run the uninstall utility with the /full switch to also remove shared components.
      3.Download the offline install ISO image file from this link:
        Choose the DOWNLOAD tab, then you can Find the Offline Install ISO image file in the right part of the page,choose your language and start download.
      4.Turn off your anti-virus/antispyware software during installation;
      5.Install the latest Windows updates from the Windows Update site:;
      Complete or dismiss Windows Update before installation. (And don't forget to turn it on later);
      6. Clean your %temp% folder (Start Menu >> Run >> Type "%temp%);
      7.Run the setup with Administrator privilege: right-click the installer -> Run as administrator;
    If you have any updates, please feel free to let me know.

    Best regards,
