VSTS - How to use VSTS in order to track and report the platform upgrades and deployments in the environments? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi there!

    Here is our scenario:

    1. There are 3 environments:
      - DEV
      - TEST
      - PROD
    2. Each of the environments contains local VM with AX7/D365 for Operations.
    3. The hotfixes and platform updates are managed using the VSTS and Visual Studio.

    Questions:

    1. Is there a way to utilize VSTS in order to track the following information and have a possibility to generate the reports about the current status of upgrades/hotfixes for each VM in each of the environments with the following particular details (other functionality will be appreciated)?
      - what platform build is deployed in each of the VM
      - what hotfixes are deployed in each of the VM
      - what deployment packages are deployed in each of the VM
    2.  If VSTS does not support that, then what online system would you recommend for that, preferably free of charge :)

Thank you very much for your help, in advance!

  • We would like to know are you using deployment groups?

Can you explain bit more on what do you mean by managing platform updates using VSTS?

Also, If the updates are done using VSTS releases, then you would have a record of all releases done and If each of your environments is configured using deployment groups, then you could get a history of releases done per machine.

Check the below link for more information on Deployment groups and how to monitor the Deployment groups.
