Hotfix for Windows (KB2664825) Catastrophic failure installing VS 2012 RRS feed

  • Question

  • I found this in the log.

    [0FCC:0F98][2012-09-17T18:26:18]: Applied non-vital package: windows61_kb2664825_x64msu, encountered error: 0x8000ffff. Continuing...

How much should I be concerned about this?  What does the package do?  Can I fix it?

  • Just got a successful install.  I believe disabling Winodws Update did the trick for me, but I also disabled all of my virus protection software too.  Hope it helps anyone with similar problems.

  • Hi Trent,

    Thanks for your post.

The error 0x8000ffff means E_UNEXPECTED which is not a detail error message..

Please reboot your OS, disable your AV software as "EdwinCampos" mentioned when you performed to install this update. I think his solution is very helpful on your issue.

For more details about Windows Update, please refer to this page:

    Note the prerequirements there.

  • Having the same problem.  Also, "Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5 Incorrect function"  And the installer is stuck on Retrying to Install Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5.  There is a quick notification that says another installation is in progress, and I need to wait for that to finish before Installing .NET Framework 4.5, but there are no other installations on my machine.
