WinForm designer as custom editor RRS feed

  • Question

  • I need to do following:
To create editor of some forms/windows (defined in XML-based documents) where can be
ONLY special controls: buttons, labels and some others.
I suppose that it is hard work to create my own editor as a single application.
How can I use Windows Forms designer in VsPackage for solving my problem?

  • Hallo,

If you are developing an editor for a custom managed language that uses the .NET Framework to create windows forms applications or class libraries, you might want to study the IronPython samples that come with the last versions of the Visual Studio SDK. In this case, creating and providing an instance of the windows forms designer is easy but you first need to develop an advanced CodeDOM provider.

If you just want to create an editor hosting the windows forms designer, for either a custom language that you have developed or to edit specific files, a very detailed article on how to do this can be found in my techinical blog. Just follow the link...

In case you need more details, feel free to ask.
